Houston Gamblers Release Simmons, Webb From Roster

With the Houston Gamblers two months away from training camp, the team has released two players from their roster.

The team posted on their Twitter page Monday evening the release of wide receiver Tyler Simmons and offensive lineman Braxton Webb. Houston’s roster moves bring the roster down to 59 players as of this article’s release.

Tyler Simmons found playing time with the Gamblers last year with injuries to the receiver position. Simmons recorded eight catches for 89 yards and a 44-yard touchdown catch during the season. Even though he wasn’t one of the top receivers on the team, he did play key roles at certain points of the season to help the team.

With the loss of Isaiah Zuber to the NFL, some were expecting Simmons to be part of the rotation at receiver. The group is already deep with Anthony Ratliff-Williams, JoJo Ward, Teo Redding, and Tyler Palka headlining the returning receivers. It was going to be an uphill challenge for Simmons to compete for playing time, especially with eight other receivers on the roster fighting for at least five spots on the team.

Braxton Webb was originally signed back in late May to help the Gamblers with depth on the offensive line as they were dealing with injuries. Webb didn’t get to see the field much in 2022 as the injuries got better toward the end of the season. The offensive line appears to be in good shape with returning linemen like Avery Gennesy, Brandon Hitner, and Tyler Higby among those back with the team.
