Michigan Panthers sign CB Levonta Taylor, Former Five Star FSU Recruit

In an effort to compliment the Defensive back field which just released four players, the Michigan Panthers picked up Levonta Taylor. Taylor who was once a Five Star recruit, and the #1 Cornerback per 24/7 sports will be joining his 4th professional league since 2020.

Taylor was an extremely coveted coming out of Highs School, being given a 5-Star rating and the overall number 7 recruit out of the 2016 class. Despite flashes, Taylor never fully took the elite strides at Florida State, and only garnered 4 interceptions in 4 years. He was not invited to the 2020 scouting combine, however, was a popular prospect for many NFL teams and earned a contract with the Rams in 2020 as an Undrafted Free Agent.

With 2020, being less than kind to late round prospects, and UDFA’s, Taylor wasn’t given the best opportunity to succeed in Rams “training camp”. Taylor would be cut from the Rams only to garner an opportunity in The Spring League in 2021 playing with The Sea Lions. Upon his tenure in The Spring League, Taylor would be in camp with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders however would be cut in June of 2022.

Taylor Joins a Panthers defensive backfield who has seen the departure of Joseph Putu, Dominque Martin, Sean Williams, Jameson Houston, Tino Ellis and Kieron Williams all players who were significant contributors in 2022. Though Taylor may not be the premiere lockdown corner his pre-college profile thought he’d be, he is definitely an athletic asset for a Panthers team lacking experience. With the signing of Taylor the Panthers roster now sits at 61 players going into USFL training camp.
