Another piece of the 2022 Bandits/Showboats team is departing. Most recently Safety Anthony Cioffi was released on January 21st, which was the Showboats most recently release since the Christian Campbell transaction the 11th of January.
Cioffi was an undrafted free agent in 2017 out of Rutgers. After the draft Cioffi had a stint with the Raiders, only to get cut at the end of 2017 training camp. He’d spend 2018 and 2019 with the Ottawa Redblacks appearing in 23 games over two seasons. He’d come back to the United States in 2020 for stint with the Jets however, would be cut at the end of 2020. He’d return to Canada putting together a solid 2021 season with the BC Lions starting 7 games before joining the USFL.
Cioffi would be drafted by the Bandits in the 19th round with the 5th pick, in the USFL draft. He’d put together a solid for the Bandits totaling 37 tackles, an interception and a sack. Cioffi would serve as a starter for the Bandits, in 2022 anchoring a defensive backfield with Quenton Meeks.
Cioffi’s departure now sports only five returnees in the defensive backfield. Cioffi currently has drawn interest from XFL teams like the Battlehawks, Vipers, and Sea Dragons. Cioffi has been extremely active on twitter reposting multiple St. Louis Battlehawks tweets, which may be an implication of what team he’d likes to join. Currently the Showboats host 62 players on their roster as the team prepares for the final leg of the off-season.
