USFL 2022: Championship Game Scores League’s Best TV Rating On FOX Since Opening Week

The TV ratings are in for the USFL 2022 Championship game on FOX. The Sunday night telecast, which saw the Birmingham Stallions defeat the Philadelphia Stars to win the league’s championship, averaged 1.517 million viewers. The game scored a 0.92 household rating. It was the USFL’s highest individual game rating on FOX since the league’s opening week in April. (1.75M). Prior to the league’s championship game, the USFL averaged 886,000 viewers per telecast on FOX (13 games) during the season and last week’s opening playoff game.

USFL 2022 TV Ratings

The USFL weekly behind-the-scenes show ‘United by Football’ averaged 510,000 viewers from 7-7:30 ET on FOX. The pre-game show on FOX from 7:30 to kickoff averaged 771,000 viewers. Nielsen tracked the USFL Championship game from 7:42 pm ET to its conclusion shortly before 11 pm ET. The championship game scored a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 adult demo.

The 2022 USFL Championship game peaked at 1.834 million viewers from 10:30-10:45 ET. Locally, the Birmingham market had an 11.0 rating and a 24 share.

The USFL’s regular-season average viewership was under 700,000 per game. (658,000). Across FOX, NBC, FS1, and the USA Network.

21 USFL games aired on FOX/NBC during the ten-week regular season. Counting the strong opening week numbers, the league averaged just over a million viewers per telecast on their two leading networks. (1,008,000). Last week’s two playoff games on FOX and NBC respectively averaged 957,000 viewers and 998,000, respectively.

Sunday night’s championship game on FOX was the first USFL broadcast to average over a million viewers for a network telecast since Week 6 on NBC and Week 4 on FOX.

The game appeared to have anywhere from 12,000 to 15,000 fans in attendance, and that’s one of the USFL’s goals for their 2023 season next April. Improving the league’s overall reach and optics.
