Through the first ten weeks of the USFL season, 36 of the league’s 40 games have aired on measured broadcast channels. The other four have aired exclusively on the Peacock streaming service. Here is the up-to-season average viewership for each network.

  • FOX- (13 games): 886k
  • NBC-(8 games): 1.13 million
  • FS1- (7 games): 284k
  • USA- (8 games): 334k

Quick analysis: The USFL’s overall season average viewership was under 700,000 per game. (658,000) With the league having no playoff berths at stake in the final week. As a result, The needle for viewership in Week 10 did move dramatically downwards.

Are the USFL’s TV ratings good? Yes and No. It depends on how you look at them. If they are compared to other sports entities on the lower rung of the rating landscape. Then the numbers are comparable and acceptable. As an example, MLS did 541,000 viewers this past Saturday afternoon on ABC. But these viewership totals are far from being a smashing success. There have been a few different factors that have worked against the USFL in obtaining a more substantial audience.

Mainly, The league’s teams are not playing in their respective cities. Very little to no crowd engagement at the games has affected the TV product and viewing experience. Even a smaller crowd of 5,000 fans per game invested in the product, would make the games seem more captivating to the mainstream sports crowd. The absence of that has been a turn-off for casual viewers. Or, more importantly, it kept people from returning to turn the games on.

By default, the USFL ratings should go up during the playoffs. The final three games of the season will air on Network television. NBC/FOX (2). With two of the playoff games on in primetime and the league championship game on FOX.

It’s a given that the USFL will be back in 2023. The same financial model was used for TSL on FOX in 2021 to serve as a bridge to the 2022 version of the USFL. The real question is not a year two of this iteration; it’s the type of league the USFL will have in their next phase.

I bought two tickets to the championship game and now if you look at Ticketmaster all the tickets in the higher price segments are sold out.

People will pay to go see games but only if the teams play in their respective cities. Being able to go to a game is really the best way to feel like you’re part of a teams fan base.

Mike – also a flex schedule that has times and dates changing week to week along with warming weather throughout the season. My Full season prediction for broadcast at 1,050k is still within reach but may be tough now. 1mm is very doable if the non-primetime game can perform.

ESPN SNB on 7/3 appear to be Phillies so keep that im mind. Either way…

    Go Generals!
