Stallions Off-Season in Review: Running Backs

Despite an injury to Bo Scarborough, the Birmingham Stallions remained one of the USFL’s top Rushing teams largely in part to C.J. Marable and Alex McGough supplementing the Bama Alum. Currently the Stallions are set to return a stable of Running Backs from 2023 with Ricky Pearson Jr., Zaquandre White, C.J. Marable, with a healthy Bobby Holly leading the way for all Four Backs.

In 2023 the Stallions relied on QB Alex McGough and C.J. Marable 1-2 punch when it came to solidifying their presence on the ground. The combo rushed for over 900 yards and 8 TDs enroute to Birmingham’s 2nd USFL Championship. Marable translated that success into an NFL opportunity with New England (he was released in August) while McGough now spends his time on Green Bay’s PS. Birmingham did see a spark in their backups White and Pearson Jr, however Marable was the work horse for the majority of the season.

So far during the 2023/24 USFL Offseason Birmingham has remained status quo regarding their Running Back room, and honestly, I don’t blame them. Between returning Scarbrough, Marable, and now a healthy Bobby Holly Birmingham should easily remain a Top-3 Team in the ground game among USFL teams. Regardless, it appears that Birmingham will continue in to 2024 with White, Marable, Scarbrough, and Pearson with now J’Mar Smith handing the ball off this season.
