NFL Head Coaches: Who is Set to Lead the Winner?

Behind every great NFL team, there is a brilliant coach. The role of the Head Coach may be understated at times, but they are vital to the success of any franchise, and nobody makes the Super Bowl without a practical man in the dugout.

Before the game, the coach will establish tactics and pick the starting teams. He will be able to get the best out of the players, and, during the match, tactical switches and player changes keep the momentum going.

Whoever lifts the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2025 will have their coaching staff to thank, but who is in line for Super Bowl glory this year?

Back to Basics

For most 32 franchises, the 2024 NFL campaign is already over. Many failed to make it past the regular season, while others have fallen in the early stages of the playoffs.

Those teams will be planning for next season, and their plans may involve a change of coach. Shortly after the regular campaign ended, no fewer than seven teams moved to fire their head coach. When next season gets underway, there will be new faces at the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Jets, the Chicago Bears, the New England Patriots, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Las Vegas Raiders.

It’s almost sure that other franchises will follow and leave more of their coaching staff out of work. Of those that remain, current Super Bowl odds show that the Philadelphia Eagles are the new favorites to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy on February 9.

With previous favorites, the Detroit Lions have been eliminated, and the Kansas City Chiefs are the closest challengers to the Eagles at the top. At the same time, the Buffalo Bills and the Washington Commanders are slight underdogs.

It will be a fascinating conclusion to the 2024 season, but which Head Coach will be drenched in Gatorade when the Super Bowl reaches the Caesars Superdome in Louisiana?

Four in Focus

Independent sources had highly rated the Eagles throughout the season, and many expected them to reach the Conference Finals. The team is guided by Head Coach Nick Sirianni, who is enjoying his fourth campaign at Lincoln Financial Field.

While this is his first role as a Head Coach, Sirianni has much experience working on special teams within the NFL. He’s previously guided offensive units at the Kansas City Chiefs, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Indianapolis Colts.

The team has won two divisional championships since taking over the main coaching position at Philadelphia in 2021. The Eagles have also made the playoffs in Sirianni’s four seasons. It’s been a steady rise for the 43-year-old, and a win in the Super Bowl would be part of that natural progression.

Over in the Kansas City Chiefs’ camp, their Head Coach Andy Reid has vast experience and has enjoyed great success. He’s been with the franchise since 2013, and at that time, he led them to three Super Bowl championships.

Eagles fans will be very familiar with Reid as he previously held the Head Coach role at Philadelphia between 1999 and 2012. If those two teams were to meet in the Super Bowl on February 9, Andy Reid’s presence would add an extra layer of rivalry.

With the Lions out of contention, many expect Kansas to coast to their fourth Super Bowl victory in six years. He may have some of the best players on his roster, but Andy Reid is clearly a skilled coach and may be the one most likely to guide his team to glory.

Underdogs Aiming to Bite

The Buffalo Bills were also expected to go deep into the playoff series. Quarterback Josh Allen has been their key player in this campaign and is one of the leading contenders for the season’s MVP award.

Away from the field of play, the Bills are led by Head Coach Sean McDermott. He’s another man who spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, working with isolated team units between 2001 and 2010.

After a stint with the Carolina Panthers as defensive coordinator, McDermott took on his first Head Coach role with Buffalo in 2017. He’s now taken the team to seven playoffs in his first eight seasons.

The Washington Commanders Head Coach, Dan Quinn, is completing the set. After leading the Dallas Cowboys for two seasons, this is his first campaign with Washington, and it’s been an impressive start. The Commanders are the underdogs, but their shock win over Detroit suggests they might cause an upset at the Super Bowl.

While all media attention will be on the players, the Head Coaches and their staff will happily blend into the background. They will be on the fringes of the celebrations but will have played a pivotal role in their team’s success.
