Birmingham Stallions Edge Out Pittsburgh Maulers 24-20 in a Thrilling USFL Matchup

The Birmingham Stallions improved to 3-1 on the season after a closely contested 24-20 victory over the Pittsburgh Maulers at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, OH. The win came on the back of strong performances from quarterback Alex McGough and wide receiver Davion Davis. The loss drops the Maulers to 1-3 for the season.

The first quarter saw the Maulers take an early lead with a field goal, but the Stallions responded in the second quarter with 10 points, including a touchdown pass from McGough to Davis. The Maulers managed to add 6 points of their own in the second quarter, leaving the halftime score at 10-9 in favor of the Stallions.

The third quarter was relatively quiet, with the only scoring coming from a Maulers field goal that gave them a 12-10 lead heading into the final quarter. The Stallions came alive in the fourth, scoring two touchdowns, one of which was a 48-yard rushing score from McGough. The Maulers fought back with a touchdown and a two-point conversion, but ultimately fell short.

McGough finished the game with 17 completions on 29 attempts for 157 yards, one passing touchdown, and two interceptions. He also added 10 carries for 48 yards and a rushing touchdown. Davis was the standout receiver for the Stallions, hauling in 8 catches for 71 yards and a touchdown.

For the Maulers, quarterback Troy Williams completed 21 of his 33 pass attempts for 217 yards, while also rushing for 63 yards and a touchdown on 7 carries. Wide receiver Bailey Gaither led the Maulers in receiving with 6 catches for 69 yards.

On the defensive side, the Stallions recorded 54 total tackles, one sack, and 5 pass deflections. The Maulers’ defense totaled 66 tackles, one sack, 2 interceptions, and 4 pass deflections.

With this win, the Birmingham Stallions continue their strong start to the season and will look to build on their momentum in the coming weeks. On the other hand, the Pittsburgh Maulers will need to regroup and find a way to bounce back from this tough loss.
