Birmingham Stallions WR Osirus Mitchell Signs with Green Bay Packers

Today it was announced that Green Bay is signing the standout USFL WR to their roster. Another domino falls, and Mitchell is now the 2nd Stallions wideout to sign with an NFL team after Victor Bolden Jr. went to the Cardinals.

Mitchell was a big part of this offense all year, due in no small part to his size and speed. The 6’5″ target finished the 2022 season with 23 catches for 333 yards and 3 scores, and seemed to always find a way to ignite this offense in clutch situations. His 4 receptions for 64 yards and a score vs New Orleans in the playoffs helped propel them to a victory, and while J’Mar Smith spread the ball out pretty well, Mitchell was a favorite target with the game on the line.

This success in Birmingham was his first big break in the pros, but his signing in Green Bay is actually a return to the NFL for Mitchell. Coming off a great run at Mississippi State where he hauled in 107 catches for 1417 yards and 14 TD’s as a 3-year starter, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a UDFA. After getting the chance to put up some tape in Birmingham, he’s headed into a good situation in Green Bay.

While the team has back to back MVP Aaron Rodgers at the helm, there have been questions about his supporting cast in 2022. With Davante Adams’ exit, Allen Lazard is pencilled in as WR1, with Sammy Watkins, Randall Cobb and rookie Christian Watson alongside him, many have been wondering who will emerge as Rodgers’ favorite.

He’ll have to show out in training camp and the preseason, but I think Osirus Mitchell has the goods, and could well earn himself a role in this offense if he earns Aaron Rodgers’ favor. Great to see another Stallion in the NFL.
