Pennsylvania Throwdown Philly Stars take on Pittsburgh Maulers

After a dramatic first week, USFL football has come to a close, and we have another exciting weekend of football to look forward to. In the first week, the South Division took a strong lead with all four teams winning their matchups.

The Maulers game was delayed to Monday night because of a weather delay on Sunday. The Maulers put up an impressive game, especially for a team that only had three weeks to prepare, but their running game never shaped up even after a first-quarter completely dedicated to it with little success.

They faced arguably the best offense in the league with the Tampa Bay Bandit‘s quarterback Jordan Ta’mau leading the way and carving up the Mauler’s defense.

The Philly Stars were also led by their quarterback play from Bryan Scott who got off to a shakey start throwing a pick-six in the first quarter. The stars were unable to get back the game after two missed feild goals and losing to the New Orleans Breakers 17-23.

Both teams look to make up for last weeks perfromances and claim the title of best team in Pennslvania. A state known for die hard football fans.

Maulers’ head coach Kirby Wilson said that his teams offensive game plan would again be run first. In week 1 Maulers’ runningback Garret Groshek went 55 yards on 16 touches and Madre London went 23 yard on 14 touches.

If the Maulers’ hope to control the game they will have to improve their yard per carry and find more success on the play action pass.

The Maulers key player this game will be Bailey Gaither. The former Green Bay Packer’s reciever will need to shine and create a deep threat to help give his ‘run first’ offense a chance at success. If the reicever can’t pull down some early catches we might see a repeat of last week.

Catch the Maulers and Stars on Saturday April 23rd at 12:00 PM EST on FS1.
