Stallions’ Hankins Rejoins Chargers, as Newly Signed TE Chris Pierce Joins Carolina Panthers

Stallions players continued to be active on the NFL waiver wire with Two players earning NFL contracts once more. On Tuesday December 12th, Birmingham saw their 2023 reserve DB return to the Chargers along with their newly signed TE Chris Pierce Jr. sign with the Carolina Panthers.

Pierce has been on and off the Arizona Cardinals practice squad since 2023 before being released after training camp. He played two preseason games in 2022 with one catch for 19 yards against the Baltimore Ravens and was later placed on the practice squad after before waived on injured reserve. The Stallions signed Pierce Jr. as a free agent on September 6, 2023.

Hankins was released in favor of WR Simi Fehoko on December 7th. After the injury to Justin Herbert leading to Max Duggan earning a spot on the Chargers 53-Man roster, Hankins was brought back to LA’s practice squad to finish out the season it appears.

Hankins was one of 16 players to earn NFL contracts from the Birmingham Stallions a figure many say is the most in the modern Spring League era passing the San Antonio Commanders of the AAF. While Pierce never took a snap for the Stallions many will consider him apart of Zach Potter’s roster of Stallions to the NFL. Going into the merger the Stallions have won Two USFL championships sporting a record of 21-3 since 2022. For more insight on the merger check out the video below:
