USFL Head of Officiating Mike Pereira Talks Taunting, Bandits Antonio Reed Suspended One Game

USFL Head of Officiating Mike Pereira put out the following video to addresses the act of excessive taunting that occurred in Week 2.

“Head of Officiating Mike Pereira addresses the act of excessive taunting that occurred in Week 2.”

“This is Mike Pereira, head of officiating for the USFL. I hope you have enjoyed the access to the field that we have given you in the USFL. Drone, sky cams, players with helmets, with cameras, microphones everywhere, handheld into the huddle.

We want this game to be enjoyable, and we told the players to have fun with it. But in the case of Antonio Reed, the Tampa Bay Bandits, who actually sat on the head of an opponent who was down on the ground, that’s totally disrespectful to his opponent and the game.

We want you to know that Antonio has been suspended for this upcoming weekend game. Look at we’ve told the officials to try to manage the game without throwing penalty flags, and we still want them to do that.

But in the area of egregiousness, when it comes to taunting, going forward, we want these acts called this is the USFL United by football.”

During Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Breakers and Tampa Bay Bandits. Safety Antonio Reed sat on a player’s head after making a block which then went viral.

Reed now becomes of the first player suspended in the new USFL 2.0 era. No word on who will be taking his place this weekend. The Tampa Bay Bandits take on Houston Gamblers at 4PM ET Saturday on Fox.
