Panthers Name Steve Brown Defensive Coordinator for 2023 USFL Season

After seeing Defensive Coordinator Dan Carrel, Tight Ends Coach Danny McDonald, and Head Coach Jeff Fisher all depart this offseason, the Michigan Panthers were in slight flux, going into the 2023 season.

After bringing in former NFL Head Coach Mike Nolan on February 3rd, Fox Sports Reporter Eric revealed via his article that Nolan was bringing in former NFL Coach Steve Brown to be his Defensive Coordinator for the Panthers in 2023.

Brown was most recently with East Tennessee State coaching their Defensive Backs since 2018. He’s been coaching since 1995 joining the St. Louis Rams as Defensive Assistant, staying with the Rams until 2000 winning a Super Bowl in 1999, and ascending to the position of Secondary Coach. In 2003 Brown joined the University of Kentucky as the Defensive Backs Coach, staying with the Wildcats until 2011 leaving the team as the Defensive Coordinator. Brown rejoined the NFL ranks in 2012 working with the Tennessee Titans, coaching Defensive Backs till 2015.

Brown joins the Panthers with Eight Years of NFL playing experience, in addition to 24 years of coaching. Brown’s promotion to Defensive Coordinator is his first opportunity as a DC in a professional setting much like the Panthers 2022 Defensive Coordinator Dan Carrel. With Eric Marty, taking control of the Offense coupled by Brown and Nolan taking care of the Defense the Panthers coaching staff gets a bit more complete moving forward to the 2nd USFL season.
