USFL Passing Touchdowns Co-Leader QB Jordan Ta’amu & Tampa Bay Bandits Face RB Mark Thompson & Houston Gamblers Sunday at 4 p.m. ET Exclusively on Peacock
NBC Sports and FOX Sports to Present All 43 USFL Games Live During Inaugural Season
STAMFORD, Conn. – June 2, 2022 – With only three weeks remaining in the regular season and the playoff race intensifying, the USFL North Division-leading New Jersey Generals (6-1), who clinched a playoff berth last week, play the Pittsburgh Maulers (1-6) in a primetime divisional matchup this Friday at 8 p.m. ET on USA Network. This weekend all USFL games will be held for the first time at historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. — home to 53 “Iron Bowl” meetings between Alabama and Auburn.
New Jersey won its sixth consecutive game last Saturday, defeating the Tampa Bay Bandits, 20-13. Running back Darius Victor registered 91 total yards (72 rushing, 19 receiving) and added to his league-leading rushing touchdown total (six). The Generals offense also features USFL receiving yards leader KaVontae Turpin (361).
The Maulers fell 26-16 to the undefeated Birmingham Stallions last Sunday. Running back Madre London ran for 99 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Paul Burmeister will handle play-by-play alongside former Dallas Cowboys head coach and NFL quarterback Jason Garrett (analyst) for Friday’s Generals-Maulers game. Zora Stephenson will serve as sideline reporter.
Sunday’s matchup features quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, who is tied for the league lead with 10 touchdown passes, and the Tampa Bay Bandits (3-4) against running back Mark Thompson and the Houston Gamblers (1-6) at 4 p.m. ET exclusively on Peacock. In the team’s first matchup of the season in Week 3, the Bandits won 27-26 on a go-ahead field goal with only 13 seconds remaining.
In a narrow 20-13 defeat to the Generals last week, the Bandits were led offensively by Ta’amu, who passed for 237 yards and a touchdown.
The Gamblers defense is led by the USFL’s leading tackler, linebacker Donald Payne (85), and sack leader, defensive end Chris Odom (eight). In their 35-24 loss to the Philadelphia Stars last week, Payne registered nine tackles and two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.
Burmeister (play-by-play) and former NFL fullback Michael Robinson (analyst) will call Sunday’s matchup on Peacock, with Stephenson serving as sideline reporter.
NBC Sports and FOX Sports, the USFL’s official media partners, will combine to present all 43 games live this inaugural season. For the 2022 USFL season, NBC Sports will present 22 games on NBC (9), USA Network (9), and Peacock (4), which will also stream all games broadcast on NBC. FOX Sports will carry 22 games split between FOX (14) and FS1 (8). The combined regular-season coverage on NBC and FOX will give the USFL 22 broadcast windows, more than any regularly scheduled sport in the first half of 2022.
