Showboats Release Four, Prior to USFL Free Agency

With USFL free agency in full force, the Memphis Showboats freed up some roster space prior to making their first signing. Four players from Memphis were released as all Eight USFL look to retool their teams in hopes of making a championship run for the upcoming spring 2024 football season.

Most notably, Memphis released Juwan Washington who has been with the franchise since 2022 (then Bandits). Washington totaled almost 500 rushing yards through two seasons in the USFL and could find work quickly as a reserve Running Back. Other players released were OG Kwan Stallworth (9 games 1 start), DT Sulaiman Kamara (6 games 0 starts), and WR D.J. Myers (0 games 0 starts). Kamara has been with the USFL since the league returned in 2022.

Currently the Showboats roster per Fox Sports is at 46 players as USFL free agency and merger talks with the XFL are in full swing. Last season the Showboats went 5-5 under Head Coach Todd Haley whose been the leader of the franchise since the team returned as the Bandits in 2022.

    Hoping for Juwan Washington to latch on somewhere, but there are only so many running back spots to go along. If played similarly from a CB spot, there would be a place for him, but it is not the same. I am hoping to see Vinny Papale show up somewhere. It was fun to see him make the team in year 1 and continuously grow from game to game with the Bandits. In year 2, he took another couple of steps. I hope to see him continue at, at least that level in year 3.
