The Stallions, fresh off their 4th victory this season have made a big move to upgrade their offense. Largely, this unit has lived off of J’Mar Smith’s arm and Osirus Mitchell/Victor Bolden. Though they were able to squeeze out a victory with Alex McGough’s mistake free football and defense, it was clear that this offense needed a boost.
CJ Marable and Tony Brooks-James have been a solid 1-2 punch at running back, and Birmingham currently ranks 4th leaguewide with 122 rush yards/game. Marable is a versatile lead back, and Brooks-James has great speed that he brings to the table, but the addition of Scarbrough immediately upgrades this stable.
A big, fast runner who stands at 6’1″ 235 pounds and ran a 4.52 40 out of college. With the Crimson Tide, he rushed for 1512 yards at 5.7 ypc and 20 TD’s while playing in tandem with future NFL starters Derrick Henry and Damien Harris. He was taken by the Cowboys in the 7th round of the 2018 draft, and ended up with the Detroit Lions after stops in Seattle and Jacksonville.
There, he won the starting job over JD McKissic after Kerryon Johnson went down, and rushed for 377 yards at 4.2 YPC and a TD in 2019. He proved that his physicallity, speed and tough running style translated to the NFL, and he led the team in rushing after they lost Johnson.
Despite his success helping the team in a pinch, the selection of D’Andre Swift in the 2020 draft and the signing of Adrian Peterson saw him exit Detroit.
He’s had stints with Seattle again, and Las Vegas last year before securing this spot in Birmingham. The Eutaw, Alabama product will now be returning home to help boost the Stallions rushing attack, and I expect the 27 year old to take this offense to the next level. Can’t wait to see him suit up.
