The Pittsburgh Maulers have made a decision with the quarterback room, releasing signal caller Roland Rivers III. Rivers was originally acquired back in week 7 of the 2022 USFL season by the Maulers. After going 1-5, Pittsburgh thrust him into action as the starter, where he completed 18 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown in a loss to the New Jersey Generals.
Rivers played sparingly as a backup, but never saw the starting lineup the rest of the way. Today, via Rivers’ Twitter, the team has opted to release their backup quarterback.
The Maulers quarterback room as it stands now contains James Morgan, Chase Fourcade, Connor Sampson, and Troy Williams. It’ll be interesting who comes out on top in the battle for the starting position. But for now, there aren’t many answers to the most important position in football for this team.
