The Pittsburgh Maulers signed another player on Saturday. Quarterback James Morgan makes his way to the steel city once again after spending some time with the Maulers in 2022 when he signed in September. Although he didn’t take a snap in the USFL’s inaugural season, he has returned for a second stint.
Morgan played his college ball at Bowling Green and Florida International from 2015-2019, throwing for 12,221 yards and 65 touchdowns. He spent some brief time in the NFL getting drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft at 125 overall. He was waived after just one season.
Since then he’s hopped to a handful of different practice squads. Spending time with the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jets again, and the Indianapolis Colts. After his one stint with the Maulers last year he was brought on by the Arizona Cardinals, but his practice squad contract expired last week and he was brought back to the Maulers.
Hopefully, the Maulers get themselves an adequate starter after this signing, and Morgan can get himself some game tape to make a run back at the NFL. He’ll be just 26 in February, with plenty of time and room to grow.
