A day after doing a recap of the Stallions off-season at the Linebacker position, and questioning the return of Scooby Wright, the SharkDawg had an announcement on his twitter. Scooby Wright posted that he plans to “Run It Back” for the Stallions and bring back his vibrate personality to Birmingham.
Wright not only was one of the better Linebackers in the USFL, also was one of the most vibrate personalities in the USFL as well. Not only does the USFL keep one of their better football players back for season 2, they also get one of their more marketable personas that serves as a positive ambassador for the USFL brand.
Two Star Scoob as he’s been referred to came to the USFL by way of Arizona where he was an All-American, won multiple awards for being the nation’s best Linebacker and even received Heisman votes in 2014. Wright would be a 7th round draft pick in 2016 playing in the NFL for two seasons with the Browns and Cardinals before joining the Arizona Hotshots of the AAF.
After the AAF folded Wright joined the Patriots in 2019 joining their practice squad before being released in October of 2019. After stints in the XFL with the DC Defenders and Spring League (2020) with the Alphas before spending 2021 out of football competing in MMA and prepping to be a Firefighter until the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions drafted him.
Finally healthy and given an opportunity to shine, Wright burst onto the field at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. Wright made his presence known immediately during the Stallions home opener against the New Jersey Generals, sacking Luis Perez to force a fumble, jumping over the Breakers Offensive Line on a goal line stand to stop Kyle Sloter from a QB Sneak touchdown, and recording the game-winning interception for the Stallions in the USFL Championship off Philadelphia Stars QB KJ Costello.
Wright’s impressive play coupled with his electric personality quickly became a top-storyline in the USFL, during the 2022 Stallions championship run.
With the return of Wright the Stallions continue to showcase a dominate defense despite the losses of DaMarquis Gates and Terrill Hanks. The Stallions retain their Week Four Defensive Player of the Week, whose wealth of experience in pro football will be vital for 2023. With the Defense bringing back several key pieces from 2022, along with the signings of NFL vets, like TJ Green, Elijah Sullivan, and Rashad Smith, the Stallions are primed to reload for a 2023 run at the USFL championship.
