On an extremely active Tuesday for the USFL, the Memphis Showboats made an under the radar transaction. The Showboats added Cornerback Troy Warner out of BYU, Brother of 49ers Linebacker Fred Warner. Warner joins the USFL after spending the last two seasons with the Bucs and Rams.
Warner spent most of 2021 on the Bucs practice squad earning $178,100 in his first season in the NFL. In 2022, Warner spent training camp with the Tampa Bay however was cut on August 21st, 2022. Prior to the NFL, Warner played in 47 games at BYU totaling 121 tackles and 2 INTs. Warner joins a Defensive Backfield that has recently released Anthony Cioffi and Christian Campbell, leading to the possibility of him being a Day One Starter for 2023.
Showboats Alumni on the Move:
Dallas Warmack who was a late addition for the Showboats in 2022, is signing with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL. Warmack was released on January 2nd, after spending the final several weeks with the team. Prior to the USFL, Warmack spent his college career at Alabama (like his brother) and Oregon starting 24 games over his college career.
Former running back BJ Emmons is also on the move this week. The teams third leading rusher has spent 2022-23, with the Texans and Saskatchewan Roughriders, and was recently resigned on the 24th of January.
The addition of Warner now brings the Showboats roster to 62. With USFL training camp set for the Mid-March, look for USFL teams to continue to re-tool their rosters in an effort to maximize the potential of each team for the 2023 season.
