Showboats Bring Back Punter Matthew Wright, and LB Anthony Butler

The Showboats continue their roster reconfiguration with two more player resigning’s this past week. Coming back for their 3rd season each in the USFL, the Showboats are bringing back Punter Matthew Wright and LB Anthony Butler.

After spending his college career at UNC-Charlotte, and Liberty University Butler was a UDFA by the Colts for about a week before joining the USFL in 2022. In two seasons with the Showboats/Bandits Butler has totaled 97 tackles and 3 interceptions over his pro football career in the USFL.

Wright also returns for his 3rd season with the USFL after playing at Georgia State for 5 seasons. The versatile Specialist has served as a Punter and Kicker for Memphis when pressed into emergency duties. After bouncing around the NFL in 2020, and 2021 Wright put together an All-USFL Performance in 2022, and now stays in Memphis for another chance at a playoff berth.

Currently the Showboats roster sits at 58 players however look for that number increase a bit as several players from Memphis have begun to feel the wrath of the looming NFL cut day. With Memphis on the outside looking in for the past two years regarding a playoff push look for Todd Haley to continue to re-tool the Showboats in hopes of bringing a championship to the Bluff City in 2024.
