In Birmingham’s gutsy win over New Orleans last week, their defense had great performances all around. linebacker Scooby Wright III had an incredible stop on 4th and goal, defensive end Dondrea Tillman had two sacks, and these two plus Demarquis Gates and safety JoJo Tillery all had over 10 tackles each. This unit fought hard to keep the Breakers to just 13 points, and Gates was voted Defensive Player of the Week.
He was all over the field. Gates had 10 stops, a tackle for a loss, half a sack, two pass deflections and a game-sealing interception. He’s been a force to be reckoned with all season, and the former Houston Roughneck/Atlanta Falcon is likely earning himself another NFL bid with his performances thus far.
Demarquis is 3rd in the league in tackles (27), and tied for second in sacks (2.5). His contributions up front, as well as in coverage make him one of the most versatile linebackers in this league thus far, and it’s been fun watching him fly around. Man’s making highlights in every. single. game.

Can’t wait to see more! He’s been tearing up spring football leagues since the AAF.
