It’s been a busy day for the USFL’s Pittsburgh affiliate. The Pittsburgh Maulers announced their color schemes being changed from purple and orange to the Steel City’s notorious black and yellow, shared by the Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates. They now have announced a press conference taking place in Canton, Ohio on Wednesday at 10:30 AM.
The announcement calls the city of Canton “Greater Pittsburgh” and leaves some room for speculation that the team could be undergoing a relocation process. It would not be absurd, as Canton is just 90 minutes away from their current home in Pittsburgh.
The conference will be held at the Hall of Fame Village, where the NFL plays its first pre-season game each year on the same weekend as the hall of fame ceremony. It is also where the USFL held its Championship game.
This news comes fresh off the USFL announcing they’d have an event in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday. That news is expected to announce that Ford Field would be the home of the Michigan Panthers and Philadelphia Stars in 2023.
A move to Canton sounds huge, and at this point is purely speculation, as no verified sources have even alluded to it. But it’s something to keep an eye on. Which will be what everybody will be doing come tomorrow morning.
