Several days after Cole Kelley announced via his he was signing with the Showboats, the team released on Tyler Rausa and Guy Myers on Thursday. With the recent release of Rausa the Showboats have added Alex Kessman on Saturday, while officially announcing the signing of Cole Kelley via their Twitter.
While we’ve already covered the signing of Cole Kelley, the signing of Alex Kessman is a bit of news on the USFL waiver wire. Kessman comes to the Showboats after coming from the University of Pittsburgh spending 2017 to 2020 with Pitt. Kessman left Pitt third overall in scoring and left the school as the career leader in Field Goals and established himself as the greatest long-range kicker in Pitt History.
Kessman would become an UDFA in 2021, after his career at Pitt. He’d sign with the LA Chargers in 2021 only to be cut during the middle of training camp. Kessman would make a late season cameo for the Jets joining the team in late November of 2021, appearing in one game for New York on December 4th. He’d unfortunately put together an 0/2 performance on extra points and would be released by the Jets on December 6th. Kessman would have one more NFL stint with the Carolina Panther practice squad for a week before being released and has not had any NFL opportunities since. Kessman now joins the USFL in hope of becoming relevant on NFL radars like USFL Specialist Ramiz Ahmed, Brock Miller, Taylor Bertolet, Tucker Addington, and Mitch Fraboni.
Less than two days after releasing Rausa the Showboats, are ready to go with Kessman for 2023. With the addition of Kelley now the Showboats have only two QBs in their Quarterback Room, as Kelley looks to compete with Brady White for QB1. Currently the Showboats now roster 62 players on their roster with about 6 or 7 weeks left till training camp.
