Several days after releasing seven players, losing Jordan Ta’amu, and seeing six players get selected in the XFL supplemental draft, the Showboats began the process of making up for 14 open roster spaces. This week the Showboats added Daniel Helm out of Duke, and Dustin Burns out of Northwestern St.
Helm joins the USFL after spending the past four seasons playing with six NFL teams. Helm has been back and forth between Practice Squad, and elevations during his NFL career. Helm most recently was a member of the Atlanta Falcons however was cut shortly after minicamp in 2022. While at Duke Helm recorded 75 Receptions for 804 Yards and 6 Touchdowns. Helm also has appeared in 14 NFL games recording 1 reception for -1 yard.
The Showboats continue their Offensive Line rebuild by adding Dustin Burns out of Northwestern St. Before joining the Showboats, Burns played the 2022 season for the Marseille Blue Stars in France’s Division 1 Elite league. He also took part in the MLFB, before the league had suspended operations. Burns is also a veteran of the NAL’s Columbus Lions and won a championship with the team in 2021.
The Showboats roster now sits at 63 players through the first week of January. With several more weeks until the beginning of training camp the Showboats look to continue to fine tune a championship roster prior to kickoff on April 16th. For the Showboats, though it’s impossible to replace some of the stalwarts the team lost, with abundant amount of skilled football players looking for the possibility of finding the next Jordan Ta’amu is always out there.
