Showboats Sign Defensive Lineman P.J. Hall

The Showboats continued to build for the 2024 Spring League season. On October 23rd, Memphis signed former NFL 2nd Round Draft Pick P.J. Hall, to bolster an already dynamic Defensive Line.

Hall comes to Memphis with both NFL and XFL experience. The Sam Houston State alum has appeared in 40 NFL games (27 starts) and added 3 XFL games to his resume in 2023. Hall has totaled 82 tackles and 2.5 sacks in the NFL while adding 5 tackles during the 2023 XFL season.

The Showboats roster currently sits at 48 players among USFL and XFL merger talks. Recently, sources via James Larsen of PFN have announced that Todd Haley will no longer be leading Memphis going into the 2024 season. Haley compiled a record of 9-11 in two seasons in the USFL and 28-37 in his career as a Head Coach.

Whenever I see a signing such as this, I hope the player can regain their form. Players are drafted this high based on talent and being physically capable. Sometimes these careers are cut short due to injury, off the field antics or underwhelming play. So this signing holds risk as the USFL allows for 58 players coming into camp. That said, e did play in the XFL so there is some recent tape to compare to older game film as a youth. Also, PJ Hall played with the XFL last year so he has been in a recent camp and s able to better gauge his ability and whether he has the mettle to come back to camp and try another season. It will be great to see if he can excel in similar to USFL Sack leader Breeland Speaks.
